Why We Do What We Do

We Understand Because We’ve Been There.

At Mission Psychiatry, we believe mental health care is about more than treating symptoms. It’s about helping people find hope, healing, and a reason to look forward to life again.

Our practice is family-owned and built on a deeply personal mission.

Our provider’s journey into psychiatry began during a difficult season of his own life, when he was challenged by deep depression. Experiencing firsthand how overwhelming it can feel to lose hope gave him a different perspective. One rooted not only in medical knowledge, but in genuine understanding and compassion.

Dr. Colvin knew there were people struggling in silence who needed someone to truly understand what they were going through.

So he made a life-changing decision.

He stepped away from a corporate career, returned to school, and moved his family across the country to pursue a career in mental health. It wasn’t the easy path, but it was the path that felt meaningful. He wanted to make a difference in the lives of people who were hurting and help them discover that their circumstances do not have to define their future.

He Gets You.

Dr. Colvin understands that asking for help can be difficult. He understands the exhaustion, the hopelessness, the fear, and the feeling that things may never get better.

But he also knows that healing is possible.

That personal experience is at the heart of how we care for every patient. We take the time to listen, understand your story, and develop a treatment plan around you, not just a diagnosis.

Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, addiction, mood disorders, or other mental health challenges, you don’t have to face it alone.

There is hope. There is help. And your life is worth fighting for.

At Mission Psychiatry, our mission is simple: to help you heal, rediscover hope, and find your way back to loving life again.

Dr. Derin Colvin | DNP, PMHNP

"Someone once told me that our practice treats every patient like they're family. We regard our patients with the same care and commitment we would offer to family providing support, compassion, and respect throughout their mental health journey. We care about our patient's diagnosis, but it's paramount to note that we care about them as a person too. Treating their symptoms is key, but walking alongside them through every step of their healing journey is what's most important."
